SRS Power and ODLS are proud to have played a crucial role in the manufacturing and delivery of two critical components for Powercor’s new $30 million zone substation in Ballarat East — a state-of-the-art Control Room and Switch Room, designed to support the region’s growing energy demands and bushfire safety initiatives.

Manufactured at SRS Power facility in Dandenong South, the buildings were engineered to exacting standards over a six-month period. The Switch Room, tailored to house specialised ABB control equipment, measures 25.4m x 6m x 3.95m and weighs approximately 50 tonnes. The larger transport configuration reached an impressive 45m in length, weighing 141 tonnes in total.
As one of Australia’s largest switchboard & Portable Building manufacturers, SRS Power brings over 30 years of experience delivering innovative, custom-built solutions across industries. Backed by ISO 9001:2015 certification, advanced technical capabilities, and a highly skilled team, SRS Power ensures consistent quality, reliability, and on-time delivery.
Delivery and installation equipment were expertly handled by Overdimensional Lift & Shift (ODLS), whose 40+ years of experience in heavy haulage ensured a seamless execution. ODLS conducted a full route inspection, collaborated with Powercor and Ballarat City Council to manage vegetation and road furniture, and coordinated the raising of 180 overhead lines across a 3km stretch to accommodate the transport height.

On-site, ODLS deployed their 600-tonne Overhead Lift System, using custom-engineered beams to precisely lift and side-shift the cargo into its final position — all within a compact footprint and with minimal ground pressure.
This project exemplifies the power of collaboration, precision engineering, and logistical excellence. A huge thank you to SRS for entrusting the ODLS Team with this highly specialised project, Powercor, ABB and all partners involved in delivering this vital infrastructure for Ballarat’s future.
